Back to School

One month out

  • See if any new registration requirements are in effect this year.
  • Find out if any physical examinations or immunizations are required .
  • Set up a specific spot for your child's book-bag and paperwork. Put everything there as you purchase it.

3 weeks out

Go clothes shopping (try to do this at off season times to save money by buying on the clearance racks).
Make sure your kids shoes are a good fit and will work for gym or sports.
Establish a bed time several weeks before school starts so they can get used to it.

2 weeks out

Get your child's schedule and names of teachers.
Designate others who may care for your child in your absence and get their ok.
Get copy of school policies (absence, illness, discipline, etc.).

1 week out

Check to be sure you have the supplies your school recommends.
Purchase a large calendar to hang on the fridge. Record everyone's schedule on it so you never over book your day.

Night before

Help your child pick out his/her outfits for the next day or week.
Make lunch (having a list of healthy lunches they like can make this job a lot easier).
Set your alarm.

After it starts

Get the names and contact info for your child's classmates' parents.
Give school emergency phone numbers to reach you.
